Valuable experience at the Barclays Digital Eagle Lab

Students from the International Business Foundation course in Bournemouth recently visited Barclays Digital Eagle Lab as part of their research and investigation into opportunities for entrepreneurs in the local area.

Barclays (a multinational banking and financial services company) have recently created the Digital Eagle Lab idea, providing workspaces, equipment, facilities and tools for developing businesses in the area. This was extremely interesting for our students who were studying Entrepreneurship and Business Enterprise.

This has led to an on-going opportunity for Tourism and Hospitality students from Kings Bournemouth to attend the regular business events held by Barclays International at the Eagle Lab in Bournemouth. In return, students from Kings have formed a small Events Group who also provide the catering at these events in the form of drinks and canapés. The last catering event on April 12th was a talk to local business owners on digital communications.

This is what students who took part had to say:

"Recently, Barclays International had a business event. The target of the event was to introduce stakeholders to new high technologies that will be implemented in the industry in near future. We were invited to do hosting at this event. It was such a great experience for us as we not only had serving practice but also talked to business people from Barclay’s International . Therefore, I used the idea of this event in Task 2 of my assignment where I described Banquets and Functions operations."Elizaveta Shlyapnikova, currently studying the Level 4 Diploma in Hospitality Management

"It was a great opportunity for me to be a part of the business event organised by Barclay’s International. Studying Food and Beverage Supervision, it has helped me to consolidate acquired knowledge and implement communication skills. It was interesting to have a role of ‘supervisor’ for some guys from Kings Education Business group by giving them advice from my personal experience in fine-dining restaurant and motivating them to do their best in order to satisfy customers and gain useful information for their future. I am so thankful to have this practice!" Aksinya Kovalenko, currently studying the Level 4 Diploma in Hospitality Management

"I was very pleased to be part of the event at Barclays International. It was an excellent experience to take part in the catering and meet people with some brilliant business ideas." Michael Zhou, an International Business Foundation student at Kings Bournemouth

"I am honoured to have the opportunity to cater at Barclays and it gave me clear understanding of hospitality and business or enterprise. I really liked learning with realistic practice." Francesca Hu, also currently completing the International Business Foundation
