Planning for a career as a sports doctor

Anastasia Startseva from Russia, an On Campus Plus student in Boston, shares her experience of university life so far and her plans for the future.

Hi Anastasia. Where do you come from and why did you decide to come to the US to study?
I’m from Volgograd, Russia. I decided to study in the US because I think that America is the best place for high-level education.

What did you like about studying with Kings before you entered Pine Manor College? How did it most help you?
The thing that I liked in Kings most is that the classes there helped me to improve my English skills and meet new and interesting people.

How has your first year at Pine Manor been most different to your time on the General English and TOEFL course Kings?
The first time in Kings was very interesting and fun. I was in a TOEFL course and I really liked it, because it gave me the best knowledge that I will never forget.

How have you found studying alongside American students?
I think studying with Americans is very interesting and unusual, but sometimes it can be difficult to understand them.

Do you know yet what your major will be in, and do you have an idea of what you’d like to do after you graduate?
In the future I would like to be a sports doctor and work with athletes.

Do you know yet if you’ll transfer to another university, and how have Kings been helping you decide?
I hope that after this year I will transfer to another university, and I know that Kings will help me with this.

Had you been to Boston before you started on the Kings pathway program? What do you like most about Chestnut Hill, and Boston in general?
I have been in Boston three times and this is my fourth time. The thing that I like in Boston and in Chestnut Hill is the studying atmosphere.

What do you like most about living on campus?
The thing I love most living on campus is that I can always be with my friends and have a good time with them.

Do you have hobbies and interests here, and do you get involved with sports and activities on campus?
I really love to play tennis, but unfortunately Pine Manor doesn’t have a tennis team. I might start a tennis club next semester. Right now I am focusing on studying.

What advice would you give to students considering taking the Pathway program?
To do what they really like to do and never stop.
